Million-dollar lawn fertiliser scam in Maharashtra: Report says companies have inflated costs
- by admin
The Maharashtra government on Thursday filed a criminal complaint against seven companies for their alleged involvement in the massive lawn fertilizer scam.
The criminal complaint filed by the state police, which includes the Enforcement Directorate, said the firms, which included Tata Motors, Lajpat Nagar, KVDA, LPG Cell and Suncor, have been engaged in an attempt to manipulate the market in Maharashtra for their products.
It also alleged that some of the firms were involved in illegal activities like defrauding farmers, cheating the government, and committing other crimes.
In the complaint, the state said the five firms had been selling the fertilizer products at inflated prices, and they also used illegal methods to manipulate pricing.
It said they had inflated the costs for the fertiliser to make the products more competitive.
The Maharashtra government has launched a probe into the allegations.
The Enforcement Directorate said it has sent a team to the state to investigate.
The probe was initiated after a complaint was received from a farmer in the state’s Thane district, who said he bought fertilizer from these companies.
The state police said in a statement that the complaint was filed after a probe by the Enforcement and Corporate Crime Branch.
